Belgium
Last weekend, my friend Katie and I took a trip to Belgium. We had originally planned on visiting Belgium because one of our favorite artists was having a concert there, but he ended up cancelling at the last minute. We decided to go anyway because we had already bought plane tickets and booked an Airbnb, and I'm so glad that we did!
We took the overnight bus to Madrid and flew out on Friday morning. In the airport, we got breakfast and I ordered Starbucks (I'm actually not a huge Starbucks fan in the United States, but I order it every time I see it here because it feels like a piece of home. So far I've seen it three times, and ordered a caramel macchiato each time). We got into Brussels at lunchtime, and took the train into Antwerp to check into our Airbnb. After we put down our bags and charged our phones, we walked into the main part of the city and got Indian food for lunch. We spent the rest of the afternoon walking around, then went to a brewery and ordered a flight to try three of the local beers. On our walk back to the Airbnb, we stumbled upon a snowball fight in a small plaza. We didn't participate, but it was fun to watch all of the kids playing with their families and dogs.
The next morning, Katie and I took a train into Brussels to spend the day there. We spent the first few hours walking around the city, then stopped for lunch and a waffle. We spent the rest of the afternoon walking around to different chocolatiers, then grabbed beers and snacks at a local brewery. We took the train back to Antwerp and ate dinner at a place that serves french fries with different sauces, then slept for a few hours before waking up to catch an early-morning flight back to Madrid and a bus back to Logroño. Our weekend was filled with good food and great conversation, and it was one of my favorite trips that I've taken this year.
