Florence

While we had a full four days in Rome, we planned the trip so that we only had one day each in Florence and Venice. This decision was based on ticket prices and Airbnb availability, but it ended up working well because we still were able to see everything we wanted to in all three cities. We spent one full day in Florence, which we spent mainly at the Academia Gallery Museum. We learned more about the history of Michelangelo’s David, and I’m so glad we were able to see the original sculpture in person. At the museum, we learned about the way artists were able to make molds of original sculptures to recreate them, and after we left the museum we walked around noticing all of the “fake” David sculptures around the city.

We had lunch at an amazing restaurant, where we had Chianti and veal with potatoes, and chocolate cake filled with mousse for dessert. We spent the rest of the evening walking by the river, and stopped in a gelato place before dinner. We were all still pretty full at dinnertime, but knew that we would be hungry if we walked back to our Airbnb (it was thirty minutes away from the city center, so we figured it would be a better idea to eat something than be out of options when we were starving later). We stopped at a tiny restaurant and ordered salads and white wine, then headed back to our Airbnb to go to bed. Our day in Florence was a whirlwind, but I’m so glad we made the decision to stop by on our way to Venice!
